Distinctive Ringing
The Distinctive Ringing feature identifies the source of incoming calls.
What You Hear Type of Incoming Call
One long ring On-campus Call
One short ring Off-campus Call
One long, two short rings Automatic Callback
Last Number Redial
The Last Number Redial feature allows you to redial the number you most recently dialed.

To Use Last Number Redial:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "# #".
  4. Number is automatically dialed.
Call Transfer

Call Transfer allows you to transfer calls to another University Park extension.

To transfer a call:

  1. Advise the calling party that you are going to transfer the call.
  2. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  3. Listen for special dialtone.
  4. Dial extension number.
  5. Announce transfer.
  6. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button to complete transfer.
  7. Hang up.

NOTE: If the extension number is busy, does not answer, or you dial a wrong number, depress the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button twice to return to your original call.

Consultation Hold

While on a call, this feature allows you to consult privately with a third party then return to the original call.

To Hold a Call and Consult:

  1. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial the third party's telephone number.
  4. Third party answers. Consult with the third party privately.
  5. Third party hangs up.
  6. Stay on the line. Original caller is automatically reconnected.

NOTE: If the third party is busy, does not answer, or you dial a wrong number, depress the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button twice to return to your original call.

Three-Way Conference Call

This feature allows you to establish a three-way conference call.

To start a three-way conference call:

  1. Establish a phone call.
  2. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  3. Listen for special dial tone.
  4. Dial the third party's telephone number.
  5. Third party answers.
  6. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  7. All three parties are connected and can talk.

NOTE: If the third party is busy, does not answer, or you dial a wrong number, depress the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button twice to return to your original call.

Call Pickup

Groups of telephones may be assigned to Call Pickup Groups. This feature allows you to answer any call made to a telephone in your Call Pickup Group.

To Answer Calls in your Pickup Group:

  1. Ringing of another phone in your Call Pickup Group is heard.
  2. Lift handset.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial "111" to activate Call Pickup.
  5. Begin talking immediately.

NOTE: If more than one phone is ringing, you get the phone which started ringing first. This feature does not work on Automatic Callback calls.

Call Hold

This feature allows you to hold a call for an extended period of time.

To Put a Call on Hold:

  1. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial "121" to activate Call Hold.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Lay the handset down. Do NOT hang up.

To return to your held call:

  1. Replace handset in the cradle.
  2. Your telephone will ring.
  3. Lift the handset. Begin talking immediately.

When you are on a call and want to answer another ringing telephone in your Call Pickup Group:

  1. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial "121" to activate Call Hold.
  4. Hear confirmation tone then dial tone.
  5. Dial "111" to activate Call Pickup.
  6. The call is connected to your telephone, begin talking.

When you finished talking and want to return to your original call:

  1. Replace the handset in the cradle.
  2. Your telephone will ring.
  3. Lift the handset. Begin talking.
Call Forward Programmable

This feature allows you to redirect all calls to another extension or to a local exchange number.

To Forward your Calls:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "102" to activate Call Forward.
  4. Listen for special dial tone.
  5. Dial the number to which your calls will be forwarded. To forward your calls to an off-campus number, remember to dial "8" first.
  6. When party answers announce that calls are being forwarded.
  7. Replace handset in the cradle. Your calls are now forwarded.

NOTE: If extension or local number is busy or your receive no answer, hang up and repeat the above process immediately. You will hear a confirmation tone, and your calls will be forwarded.

To Deactivate Call Forward:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "103" to deactivate Call Forward.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up.
Automatic Callback

If you call a University Park extension number and it is busy, Automatic Callback will notify you when the extension number becomes free and will dial the call for you automatically.

If you dial a University Park extension number and get a busy signal:

  1. Press the SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial "122" to activate Automatic Callback.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up. You can continue to place or receive other calls.

When called extension becomes free, Automatic Callback distinctive ring is heard:

  1. Lift handset, when ringing is heard.
  2. Called party answers.

To Deactivate Automatic Callback:

  1. Lift handset
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "122" to deactivate Automatic Callback.
  4. Wait for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up.
Call Park

This feature allows you to PARK a call at any telephone, then retrieve the call at another telephone.

To Park a Call:

  1. Press SWITCHHOOK or TAP/SWITCH button.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial "126"
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Replace handset in cradle.
  6. Call is now PARKED. The telephone is free to place or receive other calls.

To Retrieve a Parked Call:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "127".
  4. Listen for special dial tone.
  5. Dial the extension number where the call had been parked.
  6. Begin talking.

NOTE: Parked caller will hear ringing while the call is parked. You can PARK only one call at a time.

Personal Speed Calling

Personal Speed Calling allows a user to store up to 30 telephone numbers. These speed call numbers are programmed and used by individuals at their own telephones.

To Program a Number:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial programming code "105".
  4. Listen for special dial tone.
  5. Dial the double-digit code (00-29) by which the number is to be stored and identified.
  6. Dial the complete number to be stored (up to 24 digits). Enter all digits that are required to actually place the call.
  7. Press the "#" key.
  8. Wait for confirmation tone.
  9. Hang up.

Note:Repeat the above procedure for each number you want to store in your speed call list. Changes to your speed call list can be made by programming over the existing number.

To Use a Programmed Speed Call Number:

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial "4" to access Personal Speed Call list.
  4. Dial the double-digit code (00-29) assigned to the stored number.
  5. Ringing is heard.
  6. Call has been placed.
Call Trace *57

Call Trace ensures that the number of your last incoming caller is traced so that appropriate action may be taken against the harassing party.

After receiving a harassing or offensive call:

  1. Hang up immediately.
  2. Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.
  3. Press *57 and listen for confirmation tone.
  4. Hang up and contact University Police Services at 3-1111 for further information. If the caller threatens you or you feel you are in danger, immediately dial 911.

Note: The information provided by Call Trace will not be available to you directly, but will instead be available only to law enforcement authorities (University Police Services). You must contact University Police Services at 3-1111 to proceed with an investigation. If the call is life threatening, immediately dial 911.
