Satellite Uplink ServiceDescriptionTelecommunications and Networking Services (TNS) operates and maintains a broadcast quality Ku band satellite uplink. A satellite uplink is the link from the earth station up to the satellite. An uplink can be used to distribute LIVE or TAPED news, sporting events, teleconferencing, interviews, or classes to satellite receive sites using domestic or international satellites. This service provides transmission of analog video and audio using satellite transponders and provides for national and international distribution. Refer to Satellite Uplink for a detailed description of this service. The service is available to University and non-University customers. Service InquiryAcademic and administrative units wishing to discuss Satellite Uplink services should contact TNS through the web service inquiry form (Satellite Uplink Service Inquiry Form) or by calling (814) 865-2536. Policies/Standards:None Forms:A TSR form is required to establish the service. The TSR should be submitted to ITS Consulting and Support Service in 105 University Support Building 2. Service Charges:Satellite Uplink usage is billed on a two-tier rate structure: $250.00/hour* Non-Penn State uses. $93.00/hour* All Penn State uses: * Time is charged in 15 minute intervals. An extra half hour is charged on all uplink events for setup, signal testing, and satellite access coordination that takes place prior to your feed. Transponder time usage charges may also apply.
