Cable/Wiring Service

Description:

For purposes of this policy, the terms "Cable" and "Wiring" are used interchangeably (the word "Cable" explicitly does not refer to Cable TV Service). Either term refers to the wires or groups of wires that Penn State uses to carry voice, video, and data transmissions. TNS will design, install, maintain, and modify cable/wiring which is inter-building (that which is between buildings) and intra-building (that which is within a building), for all University-owned or -operated property. As is otherwise the case with infrastructure of this nature, TNS will only install infrastructure it designs, and will only maintain infrastructure it installs (unless it was installed by a third party coordinated or managed by TNS).

Service Inquiry

Academic and administrative units wishing to obtain cabling/wiring services for their voice, video, or data transmission needs should contact TNS through the web service inquiry form (Special Projects Design Request Form) or (814) 865-6580.

Services Charges:

Generally, inter-and intra-building cabling/wiring costs fall under three separate categories:

• TNS infrastructure upgrades - Cabling/wiring costs are centrally funded
• New construction and renovations - Cabling/wiring costs are charged to a particular Project budget
• Occupant requested upgrades - Cabling/wiring costs are charged to a Departmental budget

In such cases, both installation and recurring charges may be applicable.
