Integrated Backbone Ownership Transfer Policy
In order to comply with certain security requirements stemming from the
University's AD-20 security policy, it is ITS policy to have an accountable
organization and specific individuals with local administrative, technical,
and security responsibilities identified for each Integrated Backbone (IB)
connection. This information is required for each connection before it is
made, and it is to be updated when necessary, by the organization being
served by the connection.
It remains the responsibility of each organization having such a connection
to assure such information is kept accurate. This includes the central TNS
records, including those of IP address assignments, billing and other
aspects of identification.
ITS does allow the "transfers" of an IB connection by one organization
directly to another at "no cost" if certain criteria are met: Specifically:
- Two "no cost" TSRs must be submitted, one from the unit giving up the
backbone and one from the unit receiving the backbone.
- The "no cost" IB transfer option is only applicable to an IB
connection in its "as-is" state. If additional material or equipment is
required to meet the requirements of the unit taking over the IB or as a
result of a design/service change, then the "new" IB connection process will
be followed.
Enforcement of the IB Transfer Policy
When the situation arises when a IB transfer is discovered without adhering
to the above policy and process, ITS will highlight this to the
organizations involved, and request that action be taken to rectify the
situation by submitting the IB Transfer request and TSRs. If the necessary
information is not received within 30 days of such notification, ITS will
remove the connection from service until the matter is resolved.
