Networking & Backbone Services

TNS provides the following set of networking services to the University community at no cost to the end unit. Such services include:

  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) - which allows network computers to be dynamically configured.
  • Domain Name Service (DNS) - which provides the authoritative Domain Name System Servers at PSU.EDU to resolve network names into Internet Protocol, IP, addresses.
  • Internet Protocol Address Assignment (IPAA) - which allows TNS to manage and assign IP address space (e.g., IPv4 and IPv6).
  • Multicast Routing - which allows TNS to transport properly constructed and addressed IP packets to multiple destinations using multicast routing technologies.
  • Real Time Measurement (RTM) - which provides information about real time Integrated Backbone (IB) network performance.
  • Network Time Service - which allows TNS to provide a clock service to the University that is synchronized to The National Institute of Standards clock.
  • SMTP Host Registration - which allows contacts to registered SMTP hosts.
