Integrated Backbone
The Integrated Backbone is the University's core network that provides the inter-connection between the University's many local networks, all the campuses, and the Internet. Connections to the Integrated Backbone come in two types (100Mbs Routed Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet) and can be made over a variety of facilities. The type of connection and the facilities used depends on the location of the customer's end-point. The TNS end-point is always located within a Penn State Campus. If the customer's end-point is located within a Penn State Campus, the connection will use TNS inter-building cable plant and there will not be a charge for "bandwidth". If the customer's end-point is located beyond a campus boundary, the customer will bear the cost for "bandwidth". In this case the bandwidth available depends on the location of the customer's end-point, the customer's needs, and budget. Refer to Introducing the Integrated Backbone Services for additional information.
