INTER-CAMPUS INTERGRATED BACKBONE EXTENSION TRANSPORT FEE TO BE ELIMINATED ON JANUARY 1, 2008
Telecommunications & Networking Services (TNS), a unit of Information Technology Services (ITS), is pleased to announce the elimination of the inter-campus transport fee associated with networking services delivered through an Integrated Backbone (IB) Extension. posted on 12-03-07 - ITS RADIO PAGING SERVICE TO BE DISCONTINUED JUNE 30, 2008
Effective June 30th, 2008, the one-way Radio Paging Service offered by ITS at the University Park campus, initially created a decade ago to afford economical availability of localized paging services, will be discontinued.

In an effort to enhance DNS security and improve resource usage on the Penn State Network, ITS will restrict a feature called “Recursive DNS lookups” in the University’s domain name service (DNS) on July 9, 2007.

PRIVATE FIBER RATE EXCEPTION
Over the 10 years this policy has been in effect, the networking landscape has changed significantly. The use of network resources is now seen as a key component of efficient academic, research and administrative tasks. The technical capability of the independent academic and administrative units has increased, and common networking standards and strategies are widely accepted and used.

PENN STATE INFORMATION (RSS) NEWS FEEDS AVAILABLE ON VOIP
The latest Penn State News, Weather and Alerts can now be accessed through the University's VoIP phone system. With this Web-based feature, VoIP subscribers can utilize the Services button on their IP phone set and browse through regularly updated text summaries of Penn State Newswire and Digital Collegian headlines, view current weather data, and access ITS Alerts and News excerpts on their telephone's display area.

PENN STATE ACCESS ACCOUNT PASSWORDS SET TO EXPIRE ANNUALLY
Penn State recently began an initiative that will require all Penn State Access Account owners to change their passwords annually. Passwords can be changed at any time, but must be changed no later than April 2, 2007. ITS strongly recommends that you change your password before it expires. posted on 2-07-07
