INTER-CAMPUS INTERGRATED BACKBONE EXTENSION TRANSPORT FEE TO BE ELIMINATED ON JANUARY 1, 2008

Telecommunications & Networking Services (TNS), a unit of Information Technology Services (ITS), is pleased to announce the elimination of the inter-campus transport fee associated with networking services delivered through an Integrated Backbone (IB) Extension. An IB Extension allows University locations not served by University fiber to connect directly to the Penn State Network thereby retaining their Penn State identity (e.g., Penn State internet address space), avoid the need of a VPN to connect to the Penn State Network, and if required, obtain larger bandwidth capacity than available through a commercial ISP. Due to changes in the telecommunications market and the fees levied upon the University by telecommunications providers, it is no longer necessary for ITS to pass the inter-campus transport portion of the IB Extension cost to the subscribing University unit. This fee elimination will be effective January 1, 2008. To learn more about IB Extensions and other IB services, contact TNS at 814-865-6285 or submit your questions at https://www4.tns.its.psu.edu/forms/lanSerReqForm.html.
