About TNS

Mission

Penn State's Telecommunications and Networking Services (TNS) is responsible for developing, designing, installing, and maintaining comprehensive telecommunications services within and among University locations and outside networks to accommodate the communications needs of the University's students, faculty, and staff. The instruction, research, and public service programs in which all academic and administrative units of the University are engaged drive the need for a robust telecommunications infrastructure. TNS, along with Academic Services and Emerging Technologies, Consulting and Support Services, Digital Library Technologies, Administrative Information Services, Teaching and Learning with Technology, and Security Operations and Services, is a division of Information Technology Services (ITS).

TNS must occasionally shut down systems to perform routine maintenance and testing. See TNS System Shut-Downs, Tests, and Maintenance Guidelines for an explanation of how and when this work is scheduled.
